Notice of Special General Meeting 08/07/2021

10th June 2021

To All Members

This is to advise you that we shall hold a Special General Meeting on Thursday the 8th July in Fontmell Magna Village Hall, at 7.00 pm, following the positive response to our previous letter.

The formal agenda for the meeting will follow shortly, as well as a Prospectus which explains how members can buy additional shares in FMCLT or make donations, to enable us to purchase the freehold of the Village Shop.

We have an indication from the freeholder that he is prepared to sell to us.

The main purpose of the meeting is to bring you fully up to date with our plans for the purchase of the freehold of our Village Shop, to provide an opportunity for questions, and to request:

  1. A formal vote giving agreement from our members to negotiate formally with the freeholder and, if successful, to conclude the necessary legal formalities with him and with other necessary entities;
  2. An indication from members that they are prepared, collectively, to contribute towards a sum of at least £260,000 to enable us to reach agreement with the freeholder.

As we have stressed in the past, we are only proposing to acquire the freehold, and not the business of the shop.

This very significant meeting will be an opportunity for you to question the Management Committee, and to express your views.  It is probably our last opportunity to secure a home for our Village Shop, with its Post Office & Banking Services, Café & Tea Garden.   A number of you have replied to our letter of the 21st May, and have expressed strong support for the project.

We urge you to attend and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 8th July.

Thank you and Regards,

Dick Stainer,

Chairman.
